The Colosseum is generally regarded by Christians as a site of the martyrdom of large numbers of believers during the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire, as evidenced by Church history and tradition.
During 6th Century Colosseum were also used as a  storehouse, church, cemetery and even a castle for nobility.
Emperors used the Colosseum to entertain the public with free games. They symbolized prestige and power and increased an emperor's popularity. 
Colosseum provide a permanent purpose-built arena in the center of Ancient Rome for staging various forms of entertainment for the Ancient Romans .
